Ticks of South Texas

Our July meeting topic was Ticks of South Texas presented by Brian Rich, M.S. Graduate Research Assistant, Old Dominion University, Tick Lab. Brian Rich will discuss the interesting biology and ecology of ticks in South Texas, as well as their relationship with pathogens and preventative measures to keep yourself safe.


Brian Rich graduated from UTRGV with a bachelor's degree in Biology before going to Texas A&M University where he received a master's degree in Entomology. He is currently a PhD student at Old Dominion University working in the Tick Lab. His research focus is on the ecology of Amblyomma maculatum, examining the biotic and abiotic factors contributing to host selection changes. The Tick Lab works with researchers and government partners in the state of Virginia, in different states across the US, and internationally. Brian has previously worked with the USDA, the CDC, Virginia Public Health, the Texas Department of Agriculture, and the Texas Animal Health Commission.
