The City Nature Challenge was the theme of last night's meeting. Javier de Leon, Anita Westervelt, Joseph Connors, and Elizabeth Perdomo gave an overview of past, present, and future CNC events. After the presentation by the CNC speakers, certificates of recognition were presented to the top participants of this year's event that had reported the most species observed. Many of the top contributors were TMN members.
During the 4 days event, the LRGV project saw:
• 56 Species of Greatest Conservation Need at Research Grade
• 302 new species records in iNaturalist
• 10% increase in iNaturalist observations for participating counties
The Lower Rio Grande Valley came in 19th in species for the world. Lower than last year, but a lot more cities were participating.
